We drove through the national park up to Brecon.
I had to admit that the scenery was awe inspiring but I realised that this was not what had attracted me to visit the UK - I was after quaint villages.
Like any other town, the traffic and parking was madness.
I was thoroughly informed that I was going the wrong way when I went up a one way street.
We managed to park in a Tesco car park and bought 4 litres of bottled water.
The local theatre was just around the corner with an upstairs café with canal views so we had lunch there.
My impression was that they had only started the café that week - lunch was restricted to ham and salad rolls - no mayonaise and rather indifferent coffee.
We drove back to Merthyr Tydfil and went looking for the central shopping area in town. We found the pedestrian mall and a very large Tesco.
Eventually we settled on some take away food from a little shop in a side alley.
We took it back to our B & B and our host was most helpful in setting us up at an outdoor table to eat it.
